Housesteads Roman Fort

Housesteads Roman Fort

According to English Heritage, Housesteads Roman Fort is the most complete Roman fort in Britain. Known as Vercovicium by the Romans, the fort was built in 124 AD, and was used to house about 1000 infantrymen mostly coming from what is now Belgium. Besides the military fort, much of the civilian settlement has also been found during ongoing research
